A blend of traditional Irish drinking songs and ballads from the likes of the Dubliners, Clancy Brothers, Great Big Sea, & Pogues with modern Irish styling’s borrowed from the likes of Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, & The Mahones, and a few fun covers sprinkled in.
Irish music is all about getting the crowd involved and we do just that! The songs we play get people dancing, clapping and singing along with us, not to mention drinking! We play mostly upbeat songs with a few ballads thrown in from time to time, but focus on playing to the crowd regardless of the situation.
With a sound that is reminiscent of the Pogues, we are 4 fun loving lads who play rhythm guitar, tin whistle, banjo, mandolin, accordion, upright bass, bodhrán, and drums. If you are looking for the perfect Irish party band then look no further because we never leave before the pints are empty!
Dublin Public is:
Shea Newkirk – Lead Vocals + Rhythm Guitar + Tin Whistle
HI! I’m Shea and I started Dublin Public in the Spring of 2011. I have been playing music most of my life and in college I picked up the bass guitar and have been playing for about 10 years now with various bands from blues, rock, and indie to reggae, hip hop, and now folk and Irish styles. I love playing the bass, but felt I needed to expand my skills as a musician so I started Dublin Public as a fun project that focused on energetic live shows that get the crowd singin’ and dancin’ along!
Steve Lorentzen – Mandolin + Banjo + Accordion + Vocals
Someone wise once said, “if you’re lucky enough to be Irish, then you’re lucky enough.” I personally feel extremely lucky to be a member of Dublin Public, in which I play mandolin, banjo, and accordion. We’re a band that seeks to connect right at the heart of the human experience; covering subjects such as love, death, whiskey, and most importantly, how to love whiskey to death. I’ve been involved in music for over 16 years, and have played the instruments listed above as well as drums and guitar in bands that play rock, jazz, pop, hip hop, world music, and many other styles. I hope you make it down to our next show where we’ll be singing loudly, laughing boisterously, and of course, imbibing liberally
Nate Morefield – Upright Bass + Tenor Banjo + Vocals
By all accounts I’m only 12.5% Irish, but I’ve been trying to increase that percentage with a steady intake of Guinness over the past 20 or so years. Coincidentally, I’ve been playing bass for about that long and have played both electric and upright in projects ranging from blues and jazz to rock and funk. I jumped at the chance to join DP not only because the music is fun and the band is all about a good time, but also because people say I look really good when I wear green.
Smilin’ Jack DeBaun– Drums + Percussion + Vocals
My name is Jack. I like long walks on the beach and soft music played through a hot stack of Marshall amplifiers. My turn-on’s are people whom save puppies from bad people and the word “brouhaha.” I do believe I am about 7% Irish and that is concentrated exactly at my nose. I am mostly German; However, I do not look that hot in lederhosen and per state law, I am not fat enough to play the tuba. Therefore, I am a card carrying member of Dublin Public as the drummer. I enjoy playing with this outfit because the music is fun, people enjoy it, and the kilt fits me.
